Black Rabbit

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Jude Law and Jason Bateman
Jude Law and Jason Bateman

Black Rabbit, first episode now streaming on Netflix, is a limited series crime thriller that lives up to its star power. Jude Law as Jake Friedken, is the owner of the restaurant which the series is named for. Law is a formidable actor and doesn’t disappoint; his charm and charisma are characters in their own rights.

His brother, Vince (played extraordinarily by Jason Bateman) returns to town after an extended absence due to troubles that weigh as heavily as his new appearance: shaggy, unkempt, oily even.

Allowing Vince back into his life leads to an inevitable violent reckoning for both brothers: the opening sequence in the first episode, masterfully directed by Bateman himself.

Created by Zach Baylin and Kate Susman, the series includes eight episodes, all released on Netflix on September 18th. I’ve only watched the first episode but was hooked from the opening scene of Law, unmasked and showing the underbelly of Jake’s psyche, slowly painting over that vulnerability with a disarming smile and wink.

Costars include Cleopatrick Coleman, Sope Dirisu, Amaka Okafer, and Troy Kotsur.

Five out of five stars. A must watch.
